Who Is Keith Haring?
Keith Haring was an American artist who grew up in Kutztown, PA, United States. At a young age, Haring learned cartooning from his father, watching Disney shows, and reading Dr. Seuss. Over time, his pop art style was inspired by the New York City graffiti subculture of the 1980s. He became successful nationally and internationally with his public projects and exhibitions. His public works often carried social messages.
1- INDIVIDUAL PROJECT:
Supplies you will need:
Paper
Pencil
Crayons/ markers
What to do:
Choose your design.
Draw your figure and something to add meaning.
Add lines and dots (see example) and use the black markers to trace the lines.
Color the inside using crayons/ markers.
2- TEAM PROJECT:
Supplies you will need:
Cardboard
Pencil
Colored pencils, markers, crayons (you can choose, but the whole team should use the same one)
What to do:
Choose your design.
Draw the figure/s and color.
Your team should complete the cardboard telling a story with the illustrations.
3- EXTRA ACTIVITY:
What to do:
Choose your design. Draw the figure.
Draw lines around the figure.
Add lines and dots (see example) and use the black markers to trace the lines.
Color the different layered lines.
Example: These are just examples, now go ahead and create your own!
Who is Piet Mondrian
Piet Mondrian is a Dutch well known artist for his abstract paintings. Abstract art doesn´t show things that are recognizable, such as people, objects or landscapes. instead, artists use colors, shapes and textures to create their effect.
Supplies you will need:
- Paper
- Pencil
- Markers: blue, red, yellow, black.
What to do:
Choose your urban or natural landscape.
Draw in pencil your landscape.
Then make squares and rectangles inside.
Color the squares using the blue, red and yellow colors. Don´t forget to leave a few blank spaces as in Mondrian´s style.
Finally, use the black marker to trace the lines.
